Other activities
a)for marginally paid employees:
There is/are currently one or more employment relationships with another employer
Note: Marginally paid employment exists if the monthly salary does not regularly exceed €556. Under certain conditions, the employer of marginally paid employment must pay flat-rate contributions to health and pension insurance or, together with the employee, pay compulsory pension insurance contributions (see 5.). However, the employee has the option of applying to the employer for exemption from compulsory pension insurance and thus waiving the personal contribution to pension insurance. If only marginally paid employment is carried out in addition to a (main) employment with more than marginally paid wages, the (main) employment is not aggregated with the marginally paid employment. In these cases, marginally paid employment is exempt from health insurance and, depending on the circumstances, is exempt from, subject to, or exempt from compulsory pension insurance. Any additional marginally paid employment is added to the main employment for health, nursing, and pension insurance purposes and is subject to insurance and contributions in health, nursing, and pension insurance according to the general rules applicable to employees with more than marginally paid employment. For unemployment insurance purposes, non-marginal (main) employments subject to insurance and marginally paid employment are not added together, so that marginally paid employments generally remain exempt from insurance. If there is no (main) employment with more than marginally paid employment, the addition of the gross wages from the already held marginally paid employment(s) and the (new) marginally paid employment covered by this questionnaire results in an amount that regularly exceeds €556 per month.
Note: If the sum of the gross wages results in a monthly amount not regularly exceeding €556, the employee is exempt from contributions to all branches of social insurance, provided he or she makes use of his or her right to exemption from pension insurance.
for short-term employees (short-term mini-jobbers):
In the current calendar year, I have already held one or more jobs or was registered as unemployed and seeking work or training (see note).
Exemption from pension insurance obligation
An employee in marginally paid employment can apply for exemption from compulsory statutory pension insurance by submitting a written declaration to their employer. A sample exemption application is attached. In this case, the employer alone pays flat-rate pension insurance contributions. Please note: This does not entitle the employee to full pension insurance benefits.
Application for exemption from pension insurance contributions for marginally paid employment according to Section 6 Paragraph 1b of the Sixth Book of the Social Code (SGB VI)
I hereby apply for exemption from compulsory pension insurance for my marginally paid employment and thereby waive the acquisition of mandatory contribution periods. I have taken note of the information in the "Information Sheet on the Possible Consequences of Exemption from Compulsory Pension Insurance." I am aware that this exemption application applies to all marginally paid employment I hold simultaneously and is binding for the duration of that employment; withdrawal is not possible. I undertake to inform all other employers for whom I hold marginally paid employment of this exemption application.
